Professor Zhang Qisheng, academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, is the chairman of center. He is a pioneer in the study of bamboo industry utilization techniques and applications in China and in the world.  He has made remarkable contributions to the fabrication technology of bamboo-based engineering materials, theory of bamboo/wood materials and structures and biomass energy technologies. Professor Zhang has won numerous awards for his outstanding achievements and contributions, including one first grade and three second grade National Awards for Process in Science and Technology, one second grade and one third grade National Awards for Invention in Technology. He has published more than 100 academic papers and nine monographs. And he has supervised more than 40 master-degree and doctor-degree students and 4 post-doctors.
